North Korea and its missile launch

Recently there's a lot of talk about the missile launch going on in North korea. If they really are going to shoot the missile and the missile is really one, then the earth will have one place less filled with plants and drinking water. If the missile is a nuke then the earth will become a warmer and much hotter place. The ozone layer would probably have another hole in it. Global warming will be even more serious...

Ipw post 8th of April

Jian wen did not come due to the SYF. As he had all the group podcast and animations with him, we could not show miss Latha a thing. Today we started on the report on IPW which was due at the end of the month. I separated out the work to be done. There were many components to writing a report so miss Latha slowly went with us one by one until we knew whar we had to do. We would be sending 1 copy of the report to her by friday if we can.

Greenhouse effect

A general warming effect felt on Earth’s surface, produced by greenhouse gases. These gases allow incoming solar radiation to pass through the Earth's atmosphere, but trap heat by preventing some of the infrared radiation from the Earth’s surface from escaping to outer space. This process occurs naturally and has kept the Earth's temperature about 60 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than it would otherwise be. Current life on Earth could not be sustained without the natural greenhouse effect. However, the greenhouse effect is becoming stronger as a result of human activities, which is causing the warming we have observed over the past century.

1st of April Term 2 week 2

This week we had to read some powerpoint on how to collaborate our survey. We set our due dates. We had to post one podcast this friday. Two will be given on next wednesday. Therefore we are all staying back on Thursday to finish up the first podcast. Jian Wen will be then going home to edit it. We also had to start on a report for this project. The report would include background, introduction and survey information. 

Progress Report

During the one week holidays, we gathered to do the script for the podcasts that we are going to do. The first podcast will be on all about introduction to global warming, the second one will be on the consequences. We decided to leave a cliffhanger on each of the podcast by asking the target audience to think about the question  in the podcast.

9th week reflections

This week we started on the very first podcast. It will be all about the introduction to global warming. We have set the deadline for this podcast for next week on wednesday. We would we be doing the podcast in a unique way. We would be putting up animations and pictures. We have put up the first few lines for the podcast and should be doing it this friday. If we can we would be putting the podcast on the blog for everyone to see.

8th Week reflections

This week we were scolded for making a bad survey and doing this and that wrong. We had a bad start but we still managed to survive in the end. This week, we watched some video that had to do with Global Warming and re-did the whole survey. It was the week before exams so we did not do anything much. We will confirm to do 5 podcasts. 7 is a big bonus as we did not plan so far ahead.

We were also told when our deadlines were and are going to start on the project.

More Information-Clean Air in Asia

Some of these little ways are very helpful. Here are some ways.

1) If you have a vehicle, test it regularly for emissions

2) Buy a more fuel-efficient car. An example would be a CNG car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressed_natural_gas)

3)Use Cleaner fuels

4) Walk,cycle or use public transport more often

5)Reduce electricity and energy usage by turning off the air conditioner

Although these may seem to be very little things but by more people doing these, the world will be a more cleaner place!!!!

More Information-Clean Air In Asia

20 years ago living in some parts of America, the air is so polluted. Nowadays, it's hard to name even one city in developing Asia that does not have an air pollution problem. But smoking is something is something that people do by choice, breathing filthy air is not.

Air pollution affects the most vulnerable: young children and the elderly.
For example:
If you live in Guangzhou,China, your chances of getting lung cancer from polluted air are greater than getting the disease from smoking.
Yet while ample anti-smoking programmes exist, environmental health is still not a priority for many governments, donors and foundation. The most significant pollution are the transport, industrial and power-generation sectors, which all cause air pollution in many forms. Fine dust, called particulate matter, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Particulate_matter) penetrates deep into the lungs, increasing the risk of contracting respiratory illnesses. So the main point is stop all this environmental pollution. In my next post, i will post these little ways of making a huge difference.

" We have progressed quite well for the project. We are going to conduct a survey on the topic "Global Warming". We discussed the questions and came out with some questions in a funny way.We added in Singapore slang in certain of the questions so as to make the survey more interesting.If not,by the 2nd question, the person would be regretting for taking the survey."

Refections for 7th week(William)

This week we learnt how to conduct surveys and what were the main points of making a good example of one. We will try to complete the questions on Friday and send it to our teacher in charge to have a quick look at it before we paste the questions on the blog for the rest of the world to see and post their answers. We have to collaborate the information at the end of the day and organize it into different groups and represent it into a bar chart or graph. Finally we have to conclude what our information has to say. After all this is done we should be into the 10^th lesson. If possible, we would like to get 100peoples opinion and the target group is primary4s. This week our teacher came back from a course and lessons continued.....

Reflections 6th Week- Whole Group

"I like IPW lessons, but my teacher did not come. We still made progress though. This week we did our project planner. We decided who were doing what podcast. Jian wen was giving out the work and deadlines. It was then settled that we would be doing 7 podcasts in total. We would do an individual one, one with another person and a group effort. We sort out deadlines and tried to make it all before the mid year examinations. "

"This week, our IPW teacher was absent and hence we had to go to the other IPW teacher group to conduct our lesson. On that lesson, we had assigned our job for each one of us. We also fixed a deadline so that we will try to save time. We had also fixed a date when we will start on our project, as we cannot afford to waste anymore time. Since then, we are going to finished the product in no time if we can follow the time line. "

"Our IPW teacher did not come thus, we went to join Mr Ganesh's group. We were pretty productive,where we split up into 2 groups, doing Planner A&B. We decided on the podcast and made the schedule. I hope we can follow the schedule and end things fast."

5th week Reflections

I still strongly suggest that we will make a simple book about global warming. A video might take too long and we must go to different venues to film the video. I am just afraid the video might not be as educational as the book, which if done properly, can provide a wealth of information. But if my group still insists that we must do as educational video, I will have no choice but to tag along. We still can't choose which one. Our teacher suggests we do a podcast. Most likely we will be doing the podcast. We will probably a series, with animation and pictures to appeal to the younger ones.

"This week, we had decided to change our topics as if we are making a book about global warming, it will be too difficult for us and hence we change to making a video. Not only that people would be interested as they do not need to read such a thick book and they can also learn about global warming with all those video episodes we had made. People tend to prefer learning from video then reading book due to the moving picture in the videos which makes learning more fun.

"We had decided to change our plans and to make a video,instead of a book.We wanted to make a video that attach people's attention,like a commercial on the Television. GRACE lesson 3 reflections

"In the third week of Grace, we were supposed to continue on with our title that we have chosen the previous week. We were supposed to give guiding and thought-provoking questions. We decided that we would like to come out with a completely new syllabus. This syllabus will be aimed more to the primary sch students. Why did we choose this? We want to tell people the effects of global warming. Although this topic is already covered, what teachers do in school is sometimes too surface-need-to-know-knowledge. They do not go in depth in the subject. What people spent years researching, they teach in 3 periods. We cannot blame them; they too have schedules to follow. I think this week is a very successful week as we have come out with something more than a PowerPoint to show the teachers at the end of it all. Hope more people will learn to save the earth after learning about it."

"We continued the discussing the project and have brainstormed on the subject “Temperature Change”. We decided to put more of our focus towards the Primary school students."

"On our third lesson, we had decided on what should we do for the project. We decided to make a book about Global Warming in order to let more people know more about it. Our target is above primary school kids as their textbook about Global Warming only covered a little part of it. They should learn more about it as they might think that Global Warming is not caused by them. They will also try their best to help the Earth when they realize what mankind had done."

GRACE lesson Two reflections

Alright here are the reflections for GRACE lesson Two..Pretty long huh?
William
"This was the second week of the Grace project. This week was the week that we were supposed to choose a title for our project. We choose global warming, one of the most common title project. We were going to concentrate on the weather aspect of this project. Recently, the weather has gone havoc and is creating chaos all over the world. In the newspapers, we can see that snow is covering Europe causing people not to come out and airports to close. This is not even the time to be snowing. China’s winter came slower than over and when it’s cold. It is really miserably cold. People fall sick and die. Our group wants to find out what is the main problem behind this, which is ironically, us humans. We want more people to be aware of this problem and try to tell them what they are doing and what they can do to cut down this problem. Hope everyone is starting to research on the project. Bye."

"We discussed about our project title this week and we are doing about Global Warming, Temperature Change. People thinks that they knows about our Earth a lot and thinks that the nature resources will never use finished, but they all WRONG. It’s just because of their wrong thinking that lead to the Global Warming. The Earth is getting hotter every time and the ices in the North Pole are also started to melt! These caused the water level to rise continuously and hence there will be a day when the earth will be flooded. Since the Earth is being threatened and Mother Nature is also being destroyed, we should do our parts to save the Earth and also to warn others about the consequences. Hope that all those who see our posts can do their parts together with us.

Reflection for week 1

Well,here are the reflections starting from our Undefined Wolves leader,William Yeoh(39).

"This was the 1st time in my whole life doing an exciting project that requires about 10 weeks to complete. Grace stands for group research and collaborative expedition. It basically requires you and your team to research over a particular subject that you have chosen. We were placed into groups of 4(not our choice but had to anyway). This project was meant to teach us about many things, from life skills like working with people you don’t like to computer skills and many more. We must maintain a good attitude and complete our tasks on time each week. At the end of the 10 weeks we have to do an oral presentation. We can give our final work in the form of research papers , artifacts or models or performances. Our theme is champions of the earth. Hope we can get this posted by time. For those who have read these, hope you enjoy the rest of your week and keep reading.
